Better Days

Well today was interesting day. I woke up and today my back felt 10 times better, but my neck felt like I had a huge knot in it. I love how you never know what part of your body is going to hurt from day to day. As the day went on my back and shoulder starting hurting again. Sometimes its hard to concentrate on what I'm doing when the pain gets bad. The thing about it is I smiled and went on about my day. I smile to cover up how I'm really feeling. I went out to eat with my family tonight and had a great time laughing and talking about the craziest things. So my motto today is laughter is the best medicine. :-)

  1. Laughter really is the best medicine. You will feel a whole lot better based on a positive attitude than let the fibro run your life. You need to make sure you are in charge of the fibro and not vise-versa.

  2. It really is Richard. I'm working hard to take charge of my fibro. That's my New Year's Resolution. Tell your wife I'm sorry she has it also and I understand her pain.

  3. Tenessa, this is Richard's wife, Alena :D My struggle began when I was 14 actually, but no one at that time figured it out. I spent 2 months unable to move, it went away. I had smaller episodes a few times, but it hit me hard in 2006. Fibro and RA are thought to be on the same marker. Though I was diagnosed with RA, we believe its a combination of the two. I just wanted to reassure you that you will beat it if you take charge. I came a long ways. I have it, i accept it, and I deal with it. I do not let it take my life. I feel it every day, but it does not stop me from living. Once you get your emotional strength, the rest is easy. Its a strict self-control. You have to monitor emotional condition, maintain exercise and DIET. Yes that means you have to watch your lifestyle but once you get there, maintenance is easy. For example, you have to have a full night sleep no matter what. If you dont go into deep sleep (RMI I believe) you will hurt the next day. You cannot nap during the day because it messes up with the sleep at night. I had to give up coffee and limit alcohol, sweets and a lot of other endorphine-releasing foods and vitamines. Not that I cannot eat it period, I have to be smart about it and know when I can afford to do so and when not. Exercise is very important. If I dont drag my ass out and do something - the pain wont go away. BUT the most important is a good doctor who understands this condition, can coach you on handling it since there is no cure, and training your family to help you succeed.

  4. Thanks for the good advice Alena. I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me how you manage your fibro and RA. I know I need to work on the eating better thing. I pretty much don't like any veggies. And I don't get much excercise, because of my excuse that I'm too tired or in too much pain.
